NOMA iQ™ TIPS & TRICKS

New to building a smart home? Not sure which NOMA iQ™ solutions are best for you? Here are some tips, tricks and guides to help you get started.

CREATE AN EXPERIENCE TO AUTOMATE YOUR SCHEDULE

Experiences are a fun and simple way to automate and set routines or schedules for your devices. You can set timers, schedules and other custom settings. An example of an Experience you can build is to have the kitchen lights turn off at 10 p.m. each weekday evening and call this your “Good Night” experience.

START YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH DIFFERENT TRIGGERS

When creating your Experience, you will need to select a trigger type. Here are the different types of triggers:

Schedule Trigger
Actions will run at the specified time on the specified day. If you'd like a product to only run during a certain period of time, create a second Experience to "end" the first experience.

Example: Create an Experience to turn on your lights at 9 p.m. every weekday. Create a second Experience if you'd like them to also turn off at 11 p.m. every weekday.

Countdown Trigger
Actions will run at the end of a countdown which starts when you click the relevant shortcut. The shortcut button will appear on the home screen after you finish creating the Experience.

Example: Lights will turn on 5 minutes after pressing the “Lights on” shortcut.

Sunrise/Sunset Trigger
Actions will run at Sunrise or Sunset based on your location and the time of year.

Example: Lights will turn on at Sunset. In June, that will be 8 p.m, in December that will be 4 p.m.

Shortcut Trigger
Action will execute only when the relevant shortcut is clicked. The shortcut button will appear on the home screen after you finish creating the Experience.

Example: Lights will turn on when you press the “Lights on” shortcut.

Tips & Tricks for Lighting Solutions

DETERMINE HOW MUCH LIGHT YOU NEED

Brightness is measured in lumens and different tasks require different amounts of light. When choosing your NOMA iQ™ bulb, check your base shape, your bulb shape, and then pick the ideal lumens that will suit the room.

SET DIFFERENT COLOUR TEMPERATURES

The colour temperature of light is measured on the Kelvin scale from 2000 K to 6500 K. Warm White (2700 K - 3400 K) is best for bedrooms and living rooms to create a traditional cozy feel, while Cool White (3500 K - 4900 K) is ideal for offices and energizes a room. Daylight (5000 K - 6500 K) is great for bathrooms since it provides the greatest contrast among colours as you do your makeup or shave.

The NOMA iQ™ app includes up to 5 pre-sets depending on your bulb so you can conveniently change your room temperature:

Candlelight (2000 K)
Soft White (2700 K)
White (3000 K)
Bright White (4000 K)
Daylight (5000 K)

NOMA iQ™ also offers multi-coloured bulbs so in addition to the adjustable white colour temperature, you can choose from millions of colour variations to decorate your space.

Tips & Tricks For Air Purifiers

CHOOSE THE RIGHT AIR PURIFIER FOR YOUR HOME

Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) is a measure of the volume of air that is processed by the air purifier. The higher the CADR, the more powerful the air purifier. When choosing an air purifier for your home, select a unit with a higher CADR to purify your space more quickly.

MAXIMIZING THE POWER OF FILTRATION

All NOMA iQ™ air purifiers come with a pre-filter and a carbon-lined, odour-reducing True HEPA filter.

The washable pre-filters extend the life of the core True HEPA filter by initially filtering out larger particles such as pet hair and dust. They are also easy to clean by vacuum or putting it in the wash.

The True HEPA filter is the primary filter for the air purifier and captures up to 99.97% of airborne particles down to 0.3 microns. This True HEPA filter is also carbon-lined to reduce odours in the air.

OPTIONAL IONIZER FUNCTION CAPTURES EVEN FINER PARTICLES

An ionizer electrically charges a room's air molecules so your air purifier can trap fine airborne particles less than 0.3 microns more efficiently. Fine particles smaller than 2.5 microns are the most hazardous to your respiratory health. NOMA iQ’s™ air purifiers have a manual ionizer switch so you can choose when you'd like to have it on or off.

Tips & Tricks For Grow Lights

TURN YOUR LIGHTS OFF REGULARLY

When it comes to grow lights, this tip is particularly important. Like most living things, plants need a chance to rest and shouldn’t be lit 24/7. It's recommended to keep plants in shade for at least six hours per day to mimic natural day and night light cycles. If you don’t want to worry about manually adjusting your lights, create an Experience for your grow light using the NOMA iQ™ App. That way, you can schedule your lights to turn on and off automatically.

ADJUST THE HEIGHT AS NEEDED

At some point, you’ll need to raise or lower your grow light for optimal growth. For example, it may need to be lower when the plants are first sprouting. At this time your light should be in “Growing” mode, which utilizes more blue light to stimulate vegetative growth in foliage and roots.

As plants grow in height, your light should be raised to ensure lighting conditions remain optimal through growth stages. During this stage, your light should be in “Flowering” mode, which utilizes more red light to stimulate plants to produce flowers and fruit.

Tips & Tricks For Portable And Window Air Conditioners

ENJOY MULTI-FUNCTIONAL OPERATION

Most people think of air conditioners as a one-season commodity, but that doesn’t have to be the case. With multi-functioning units, you could be making a year-round investment. Our air conditioners have a dehumidify mode that works to remove moisture from the air and helps prevent mould and bacteria.

NOMA iQ™ air conditioners have three fan settings: high, medium, and low. High is usually most effective for cooling during normal warm weather. However, when it’s very humid, it’s better to keep the fan on low. NOMA iQ™ air conditioners have three fan settings: high, medium, and low. High is usually most effective for cooling during normal warm weather. However, when it’s very humid, it’s better to keep the fan on low.

Our window air conditioners also include an ECO mode, which saves you energy by cycling on and off to maintain your desired temperature.

CLOSE OFF YOUR SPACE

Our air conditioners are meant to cool a specified, enclosed space. If you have an open concept room floor plan, you’ll want to count the entire combined space when calculating square footage. If the spaces aren’t closed off, the air conditioner will be working to cool down the entire space.

The easiest way to account for this is to go up in BTUs or purchase multiple units. If you were thinking you needed a 10,000 BTU unit, but your space does open to another room, go for a 12,000 BTU unit, or supplement it with an 8,000 BTU unit. With that said, the more you can close off the space, the better and more effective the unit will work. Try to close any doors or openings leading into the room you are trying to cool.

MAXIMIZING YOUR AIR CONDITIONER

Schedule your unit to turn on before you are home. Don’t arrive home and turn up the machine on full blast. Instead, schedule it to turn on 30 minutes before you’re home, and slowly cool down your whole space. Air conditioners work best when continuously on for long periods, rather than trying to blast-cool a whole room. Having the air on full blast all the time shortens your AC’s lifespan.
